KPC Builds Local Chicken Breeding Center for Farmer Independence

PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) is determined that chicken farmers in East Kutai, immediately get seeds or day old chicken (DOC) at affordable prices. Through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, KPC has built a Local Chicken Breeding Center, which is located in the post-mining area of ​​D2 Murung, Kabo Jaya.

Through the MoU between KPC and the Kutai Timur Regency Government numbered L026/ESD/BCRD/III/2017, the Local Chicken Breeding Center was built with a capacity of 6,000 brooders. There are two cages with a capacity of 3,000 chickens per cage and one cage for hatching DOC.

The first Breeding Farm in Kalimantan Timur was inaugurated by the Regent of Kutai Timur Ardiansyah Sulaiman, Wednesday (13/10/2021). Ardiansyah said he was happy with KPC’s initiative to build a breeding farm in Kutai Timur. He stated that the existence of the breeding farm was a blessing for Kutai Timur.

“I feel that the KPC breeding farm is a blessing for Kutai Timur. I know that building a breeding farm is not easy. There are many twists and turns. I have high appreciation for KPC for this development,” said Ardiansyah.

KPC Chief Operating Officer (COO) Muhammad Rudy said that he had long dreamed of having a Local Chicken Breeding Center and only now realized it. “We’ve wanted this for a long time. I’m sure if we develop this, it can become the spearhead of the Kutai Timur economy,” said Rudy.

GM External Affairs and Sustainable Development (ESD) Wawan Setiawan said, breeding farms can reduce DOC prices by 30-40 percent at the farmer level. According to Wawan, KPC’s breeding farm production plan will reach 20 thousand DOCs per month.

According to data from the Indonesian Local Poultry Farmers Association (HIMPULI) of Kalimantan Timur, the production capacity of 20 thousand DOCs can meet 30 percent of Kalimantan Timur’s needs per month, which can reach 80 thousand DOCs.

The construction of the KPC breeding farm has cost IDR 3.2 billion, for facilities and infrastructure, in the form of two cage units for each brood, one hatchery unit (a place for incubation and hatching), three incubation machines and one hatching machine with a capacity of 10 thousand eggs. (*)
