KPC Awarded the 17th PROPER Gold

PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), again received a very good assessment in environmental management.  This is shown by the receipt of the 2019-2020 Environmental Performance Rating Program (PROPER) gold certificate award, which was received on Monday (28/9/2020).

This Gold PROPER is the 17th time that KPC has received from the East Kalimantan Provincial Government.  The award was given directly by the Governor of East Kalimantan Isran Noor and received by External Relations Manager Yordhen Ampung, in the Ruhui Rahayu Room, East Kalimantan Governor’s Office, Samarinda, Monday (28/9/2020).

General Manager of External Affairs and Sustainable Development (GM ESD) KPC Wawan Setiawan said that so far KPC has always made innovations to achieve better environmental conditions in the company’s mining process.  “So far, KPC has always been innovating to achieve the highest standards in environmental and social management,” said Wawan.

Along with this achievement, Imanuel Manage, GM HSES emphasized that awards are not the main orientation of KPC’s environmental and social management.  More importantly, how high compliance standards are able to legate a good environment for future generations.

In addition, the PROPER Gold achieved by KPC proves that the mining company in East Kutai continues to increase its commitment to the environment.  “This proves that KPC continues to be committed to protecting the environment, by implementing good mining practices methods,” said Imanuel.

The PROPER assessment period for 2020 is July 2019-June 2020. KPC’s environmental performance in that period shows very good results.  Among other things, the level of compliance reaches 100%, energy efficiency of 2.29 million gigajoules, water efficiency of 5.2 million cubic meters, equivalent to a savings of more than Rp 18 billion.

In addition, KPC succeeded in making a very significant emission reduction of 2 million tons CO2-eq, equivalent to a savings of IDR 1.8 trillion.  For hazardous and non-hazardous waste, KPC has also succeeded in reducing the hazardous waste by 10,256 tons, equivalent to a saving of IDR 38.2 billion, and non-hazardous as much as 9,811, equivalent to a saving of IDR 247.9 billion.

KPC also succeeded in reducing water pollution by 5,752.38 tons of TTS, 48.39 tons of BOD and 0.0007 tons of ammonia, which is equivalent to a savings of more than Rp 169 billion.  97,235,596 m3 of water conservation has been carried out, 11 species of protected mammals have been conserved, 36 species of endangered flora have been conserved.
