KPC, Sangatta Naval Base, NTP Harvest Fish in Post-Mining Pond TBA

Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in collaboration with the Indonesian Navy Base (Lanal) and PT Nusa Tambang Pratama (NTP), has successfully cultivated catfish and tilapia in the KPC post-mining pond, Telaga Batu Arang (TBA). This success was marked by the first harvest of catfish from the first seed distribution two months ago, Tuesday (15/4/2025).

The first harvest event was combined with the second stage of seed distribution of 13 thousand fish. Present at the event were the Regent of East Kutai Drs H Ardiansyah Sulaiman MSi, Sangatta Naval Base Commander, Lieutenant Colonel (P) Fajar Yuswantoro, Acting General Manager of External Affairs and Sustainable Development (ESD) Ronald Sihombing, Chairman of the Kutim DPRD Jimmi and various elements of the East Kutai Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda).

“I appreciate the extensive synergy between KPC and Lanal. I hope that it also needs to be developed together with other institutions. Because I want this TBA to become a model for research and trials in post-mining land,” said Ardiansyah.

Ardiansyah specifically gave his appreciation to KPC for the results of the reclamation in TBA. “I see endemic plants growing well. The pond water is also good. Thank you for all your efforts to maintain the ecosystem in this TBA,” said Ardiansyah.

Sangatta Naval Base Commander Lt. Col. Laut (P) Fajar Yuswantoro said that the development of catfish and tilapia in TBA is one form of real contribution from the Navy to meet the nutritional needs of the people of East Kutai. At the same time, it is a real form of support for the food security program initiated by President Probowo Subianto.

In this collaboration, KPC together with its contractor PT Nusa Tambang Pratama (NTP) helped provide fish seeds, tarpaulin for pond media and fish feed as well as cultivation locations. Meanwhile, fish development was then carried out by Sangatta Naval Base.

The first stage of fish seed distribution was carried out in January 2025. At that time, as many as 8,000 catfish and tilapia were distributed in more than 20 cages.

Separately, Acting Superintendent Conservation and Agribusiness Development (CAD) KPC Nugroho Dewanto said that the collaboration between KPC and Sangatta Naval Base would last for one year. After this first harvest, Lanal Sangatta is expected to continue this program by involving local fish farmers. (*)
