Protecting Employee Rights
KPC upholds human rights, fairness, and equality in all interactions with employees, including contractor workers. We do not discriminate based on religion, ethnicity, race, or gender.
We firmly oppose forced labor in any form and the employment of underage workers. In assigning tasks, we always prioritize occupational health and safety employees have the right to refuse instructions that violate safety procedures or pose a risk to their wellbeing. KPC also requires all contractors and suppliers to comply with labor regulations and KPC’s standards on safety, health, and environmental practices.

Our mining operations are located in Sangatta, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan. From the beginning, we have been committed to empowering and developing the region, including by offering employment opportunities to local communities.
The location of recruitment (point of hire) is a key consideration in our hiring process. We prioritize candidates residing near the point of hire Sangatta and surrounding areas. To support this, KPC complements recruitment efforts with training, development, and educational programs for local communities.
Career Development
All employees undergo periodic performance evaluations to ensure continuous career and personal development. KPC also recognizes and rewards employees who demonstrate strong performance and positive contributions to the company. To support career advancement, KPC has developed the Dual Career Ladder program, which provides structured pathways for functional roles. Various programs have been established, including basic leadership training, disciplinary action training, and HR training for non-HR professionals.
Pre-Retirement Program
KPC is committed to supporting employees who are approaching retirement. We offer Pre-Retirement Preparation (MPP) training to help employees and their families prepare physically and mentally for retirement. The program also includes entrepreneurship training and field visits to learn from former employees who have successfully established businesses.
Employee Turnover
Turnover is attributed to several factors, including normal retirement age, contract completion, termination, resignation, health reasons, and other causes. In line with the Employment Act No. 13 and the applicable Collective Labor Agreement (PKB), resignation or termination notices must be submitted at least one month in advance.
Comfort and Quality of Life in Mining Operations
Our operational area in Sangatta is located within the capital of East Kutai Regency. What once was a small village of 4,000 people has grown into a city of 131,000 residents by 2025 growth that cannot be separated from KPC’s presence and continued development.
We provide various facilities both within the mining area and in the surrounding cities, including housing complexes, schools, places of worship, sports facilities, meeting halls, and healthcare services. These facilities ensure comfort for employees, contractors, and their families. We also regularly host employee engagement activities to help employees unwind and strengthen camaraderie.
Employee Engagement Activities
KPC values togetherness through various non-work-related activities. One of the annual events is the division-level gathering party, which provides an opportunity for employees to come together and strengthen bonds. We also conduct outbound activities using our own facilities to enhance teamwork and solidarity. Additionally, we utilize our post-mining site, Telaga Batu Arang, as a venue for family events.
Work–Life Balance
We recognize that family is an essential part of every individual’s life. Family support plays a significant role in employee morale and productivity. To support work–life balance, KPC implements various policies, including flexible working hours, annual leave benefits, transportation allowances for annual leave, and easy access to leave for religious observances. We also provide family visits, 12 weeks of maternity leave, and two days of paternity leave.
Employee Facilities
KPC aims to ensure comfort and motivation by providing adequate facilities for all employees. These include housing and three meals per day. Around employee housing complexes, we offer recreational and sports facilities such as golf courses, football fields, basketball courts, swimming pools, and more. We also provide shuttle buses for employees to and from the workplace, as well as transportation for employees’ children to and from company schools helping ensure safety and fuel efficiency.

Discipline Culture at KPC
All KPC employees are trained to embody a culture of discipline. By instilling discipline, we not only improve employee performance for the company’s progress but also aim to foster positive personal development among employees.
Labor Unions
KPC provides employees the opportunity to join labor unions. Through these unions, employees can voice their aspirations and propose improvements or initiatives to management. Labor unions are formed by, from, and for workers both within and outside KPC and operate freely, openly, independently, democratically, and responsibly to champion workers’ rights and welfare.
All employees, regardless of union membership, have equal rights to express their views in routine meetings held by the unions or the Human Resources Division.
The Bipartite Cooperation Institution (LKS) was established on January 31, 2005, consisting of representatives from both management and labor unions.
KPC works with six labor unions:

- Federasi Serikat Pekerja Kimia, Energi, & Pertambangan Serikat Pekerja Seluruh Indonesia (FSP-KEP SPSI)
- Collective Labor Agreement (PKB)
The Collective Labor Agreement is a binding agreement between KPC and its employees. It ensures the protection of employee rights and obligations according to their employment relationship. The PKB reflects a mutual consensus between labor unions and the company, based on goodwill and mutual respect, to build a harmonious and ethical industrial relationship.
HRCR Forum and HR Network
The HRCR Forum and HR Network serve as platforms for coordinating issues related to labor, industrial relations, and local community development between KPC and its subcontractors. These forums, held every two months, discuss topics agreed upon by participants. Beyond the HRCR Forum, KPC also maintains close relationships with three other major mining companies (the “big four”): PT FMI, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, and PT NNT.
Employee Appreciation
KPC recognizes employees for their dedication and hard work in achieving company targets. These appreciation initiatives are designed to motivate employees to continue delivering their best performance. Recognition includes salaries and allowances, retirement programs, long-service bonuses, scholarships for employees’ children, and a range of other benefits.
Employee Remuneration and Benefits
Remuneration and benefits are determined by employee performance, company performance, and annual salary benchmarking surveys. In practice, KPC consistently provides wages above the regional minimum wage.
We provide Religious Holiday Allowances (THRK), paid at least fifteen days before Eid al-Fitr. All employees are entitled to annual leave and receive an annual leave premium upon reaching their leave entitlement. Transportation allowances for leave are provided to permanent employees and their dependents.
Other benefits include retirement plans, long-service bonuses, transportation support to the place of origin, and retirement separation pay. KPC also offers soft loans for employee housing programs and provides bereavement and funeral allowances in the event of the death of an employee, dependent, parent, or parent-in-law.
Scholarships for Employees’ Families
Beyond providing direct employee benefits, we also support their families particularly employees’ children as the next generation of the nation. KPC offers scholarship programs for employees’ children to encourage academic excellence.
