|
The nature and cultural conservation program is a form of KPC’s commitment to maintaining the structure of the society by preserving the nature and culture. This mission is implemented through various activities and supports as follow:
- Integrated Garbage Management Program - Together with the Environment Department and the Family Welfare Empowerment Group (PKK), KPC has conducted a techno-social training related to the community-based garbage management in August 2007, facilitiated by the Pusdakota (Centre for Urban Community Development) and attended by various elements of the society such as housewives, PKK cadres, teachers, NGOs and government officials. From the result of the training, the participants agreed to establish the Community Care for the Environment Forum that will conduct various activities aimed to establish a Clean and Beautiful Sengata.
KPC also worked together with the Pusdakota and the Environment Department and conducted the social analysis related to the GERAK BERSEMI (Clean, Healthy and Independent Community Movement) program. Three locations were established as demo plots for community-based garbage management.
- Kutai National Park (TNK) Partner - As a TNK Partner, KPC remains committed to supporting efforts to preserve TNK, which is located adjacent to KPC’s mining operation. The support was focused towards awareness improvement activities, such as Cerdas Cermat (Smart and Accurate) Quiz, camping, wana rally, book publication, etc.
- Cultural conservation - As part of the company’s social responsibility, KPC assists with the efforts to conserve local culture and assets and to improve the quality of dance arts from remote areas. In November 2007, through the Multi-Stakeholders Forum for CSR, support was given to the Sanggar Tari Putra-Putri (Boys and Girls Dance School) in Kongbeng Regency and the Kridho Laras Arts Association in Kaliorang Regency. Support was provided through the procurement of traditional music equipment, sound systems, and uniforms for the members.
