The development of community infrastructures is a part of the company’s social responsibility which also received KPC’s attention. Together with the local government through the partnership fund, KPC worked with the Public Works Department to repair public facilities, sports facilities and roads, pave small streets, construct drains, repair water pumps, construct fences, renovate schools and pay retention for finished projects. KPC also provided direct assistance for infrastructure development proposed by the community, in particular the construction of religious facilities and other public facilities, including the repair and construction of mosques, langgars (small prayer house), mushollas, churches, public markets, village halls, road repair and foster homes. Throughout 2007 there were approximately 25 community infrastructure construction and improvement projects conducted by KPC together with the local government after proposals from the community. Some of the projects are the finalisation of agreed project from previous years as well as ongoing projects. The communities surrounding these projects receive the benefits. This can be monitored through the community feedback provided in feedback forms. To improve the overall community health, KPC built clean water facilities in four villages around the operational areas, in Singa Gembara Village, Upper Sekurau Village, Lower Sekurau Village, and Kenyamukan Village. With the development of these clean water facilities it is expected that the community will have sufficient supplies of good quality water. To show KPC’s commitment towards the Singa Gembara residents, and in conjunction with the agreement made on May 8, 2006, several items were achieved in 2007, including improvement of 1,300 meters of road and drainage, extension of three classrooms in the State Elementary School 005 Singa Gembara, procurement of Clean Water Treatment units (IPAB ITB), piling for IPAB ITB’s access, procurement of water distribution pipes, support for costs to excavate, connect, and install the main distribution pipe, cleaning of ditches in Pongtiku road, and construction piling for alleys in the Singa Gembara road. Responding to the request of the regional government, and for the benefit of the community that travel along and uses the main road that connects the regions, KPC has also conducted repair on 845 meters of road on Road 9. This repair will ensure comfort and safety for travelers using the road. |
